UW Operation Smile
Spring 2021

UW Operation Smile is a club affiliated with Operation Smile Canada, an organization that aims to raise awareness and provide medical assistance and surgeries to countries around the world for cleft lip and cleft palate. UW Operation Smile works to raise awareness of these conditions in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, and hosts a variety of fundraising events to help raise donations toward this cause.

UW Pre-Med Club is an event-based club under the Federation of Students. We are a student-run organization that provides assistance and networking opportunities for those interested in medicine and medicine-related careers. The club holds various events that provide information on topics such as the medical school application process, the MCAT and its associated preparatory courses as well as ways to get involved around your school and community. The club is open to students of all faculties at the University of Waterloo.

While rooted in a rich history of playing Trivial Pursuit at the now-defunct Bombshelter, the modern incarnation of our club comes together to compete in intra-university and inter-university scholastic competitions, primarily Quizbowl. UW Supporting Heart and Stroke is a group of students whose goal is to raise awareness about heart disease, stroke, and related conditions. Heart-related diseases are a burden to many adults, and it often stems from a poor lifestyle at a young age. Our group strives towards creating a healthier community by educating UWaterloo members and raising money in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

UW Supporting SickKids is dedicated to creating a practical impact within the Waterloo community and beyond all in hopes to aid the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) through a variety of different means. These means will go beyond financial support as the club will also contribute by sending gifts and letters to bring smiles on children's faces and supporting staff, parents, and patients along their journeys. The club will aim to work with members of all faculties to seek support and spread awareness. Waterloo Students and Microbiology (WatSAM) was established to create an avenue for students from all six faculties to collaborate and network. This group is made up of students who are connected to microbiology and are dedicated to fostering the research and education of the study of microbial communities. WatSAM will educate and connect these students as well as facilitate their professional progress in the study of microbiomes.

The purpose of the club is to gather University of Waterloo students, staff, faculty, and members of the UWaterloo community at large to
a) foster interdisciplinary collaborations and relationships between students and Waterloo Centre for Microbial Research (WCMR) members
b) connect and educate students, both graduate and undergraduate, in the diverse world of microbiology
